TryAgain Indirection Illustrations

We begin with a "cartoon illustration". A climber wishes to climb a steep hill, but as much as he tries, he fails to scale the steep walls. He then considers the three TryAgain Path Categories: First the "breakdown": to bring a ladder, and climb with it part of the hill; tie himself at that spot, then pull the ladder up to climb on to the next spot, and so repeat until the ladder reaches the hilltop and the climber is on it. Second, "extension": find a challenge that is easier to negotiate, such than when negotiated puts you in a better position to reach the original goal. Third, "abstraction": take a broader view of the situation, identify a 'higher-up' challenge such that when solved, can be 'reduced', specified towards the original challenge.
